Description

At the request of the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA convened a panel of experts to conduct an analysis of the U.S. Animal Health and Veterinary Industry. The expert panel held numerous conversations with experts and invited written submissions from stakeholders, identifying gaps and outdated regulatory processes. Food animal producers across ag sectors identified similar gaps in the overall regulatory process that creates an uneven playing field for imported agricultural products. While the report is inherently FDA-centric, the interconnectedness of the animal health ecosystem will require multiple government agencies and Congress to remedy system flaws. The report discusses important and timely issues withing the context of animal health, advocating for measures that will make the U.S. economy more efficient and cost effective in producing food and animal products, through the enhancement of animal health and nutrition.
The Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA released its report on Transforming Animal Health in the U.S. for the 21st Century earlier this summer and shared an early report with NIAA stakeholders. Now that the report has been released, Dr. Michelle Kromm will present the report findings and field questions from industry stakeholders. Please join NIAA on October 7 at 2 p.m. CST.
